A monitor is a question you save in your Singular watchlist, and the Singular AI agent checks it on a schedule. Connect a monitor to a Slack channel and the team hears about a result as soon as the agent finds it, without anyone opening Singular.
Before you start
- Your Slack workspace has to be connected to your Singular account. See Connect Slack and link your account.
- You need a monitor in your watchlist. Create one with New monitor, describe what the agent should check, and set how often it runs: every hour, every day at a time you pick, or on chosen days of the week.
Connect a monitor to a channel
- Open your watchlist and find the monitor.
- Choose Send monitor alerts to a Slack channel.
- Slack asks which channel to post to. Pick one and approve.
Each monitor posts to one channel. Different monitors can post to different channels.
Two things happen as soon as you connect:
- A confirmation posts to the channel, so everyone there knows what to expect and who to ask.
- If that monitor is already holding a result worth reporting, it is sent straight away rather than waiting for the next check.
Once connected, Singular tells you where a monitor posts. For example: Checks every day at 09:00 and posts the result on this page and to #growth-analytics.
What gets posted, and what does not
A check compares what it finds against the previous check and flags only what changed. When nothing is worth reporting, nothing is posted to Slack, so a quiet channel means the agent looked and found nothing new. Every check is still recorded in your watchlist, whether or not it posted.
An alert contains:
- An icon and the monitor's name. The name is used rather than the full prompt, which would read as a wall of text in a channel.
- The headline: what the agent found.
- The supporting detail behind it.
- An Open in Watchlist link to the full thread in Singular, where the numbers, tables and charts live.
What the icons mean
- Red - Heads up. Something needs your attention.
- Green - Good news.
- White - Nothing notable, reported for completeness.
- Question mark - Needs your reply. The agent could not act on the prompt as written; open the thread and clarify it.
Change or disconnect the channel
- Change the channel: click the Slack indicator on the monitor. It shows where alerts go now, and clicking it lets you pick a different channel.
- Stop the alerts: open the monitor's menu and choose Disconnect Slack. The monitor keeps running and keeps posting results in Singular; it just stops posting to the channel.
- Stop the checks entirely: open the monitor's menu and choose Pause. A paused monitor does not check and does not post anywhere. Use Resume to start it again.
Good to know
- Everyone in the channel sees the alert, including its numbers. Choose the channel with that in mind.
- The alert carries the finding, not a full report. Use Open in Watchlist for the evidence behind it, and to reply to the agent.
- Removing a monitor removes its Slack connection with it.
Messages you might see
- Monitor alerts will be sent to #channel. The connection worked.
- The Slack connection process was not completed. The Slack authorization screen was closed before it finished. Try connecting again.
- Could not connect to Slack. Please try again. Singular could not complete the connection. If it keeps happening, contact support@singular.net.
