Connecting Slack to Singular takes two steps: an administrator connects the workspace once, then each person links their own Slack account. This page covers both, plus how to reconnect, unlink and disconnect.
Step 1: connect the workspace
Someone with a Singular account and permission to install apps in your Slack workspace does this once.
- In Singular, open the AI assistant.
- Choose Connect Slack.
- Approve the Singular app in Slack.
Singular confirms with Slack is connected. Mention @Singular in any channel to ask a question. The person who connects the workspace has their own Slack account linked automatically, so they can start asking straight away.
A Slack workspace connects to one Singular account, and a Singular account connects to one Slack workspace. Moving either is a deliberate change, so if you connect the wrong pair, disconnect before trying again.
The AI assistant is required for this step. If your account does not include it, Singular says Your account doesn't include the AI assistant. Contact your Singular representative.
Step 2: link your own Slack account
Every person who wants to use the assistant links their own account once. This is what lets the assistant answer you with the data your Singular permissions allow, rather than someone else's.
There are two ways to do it.
From Singular
Open the AI assistant and choose Connect my Slack. Approve in Slack, and Singular confirms with Your Slack account is linked. Mention @Singular in any channel to ask a question.
From Slack, the first time you ask
If you mention @Singular before linking, the app replies with a message only you can see, carrying a link that connects your account. The link works once and expires shortly.
Your question is not lost. Once you finish linking, the question you already asked gets answered, and Singular tells you so: Your Slack account is linked. Head back to Slack - your question is being answered.
One Slack account links to one Singular user. If that Slack account already belongs to someone else's Singular account, you will see That Slack account is already linked to another Singular user. Unlink it there first.
Keeping the connection healthy
Singular shows one of these on the assistant page when something needs attention. Both are done by an administrator and neither affects anything else.
- Reconnect Slack - Slack stopped accepting Singular's access to the workspace, usually because the app was removed or its access was revoked. Until it is reconnected, mentions go unanswered.
- Update Slack app - the app in your workspace is missing newer permissions, so some replies go unanswered. Reinstalling it in Slack takes a moment and keeps everything else as it is.
Unlinking and disconnecting
- Unlink your own account: use the unlink control next to the workspace name on the assistant page. The workspace stays connected for everyone else; the assistant simply stops answering you until you link again.
- Disconnect the workspace: remove the Singular app in Slack. Mentions stop being answered for everyone on that workspace.
What Singular can and cannot see
- The assistant reads the message that mentions it, and the replies in a thread it has already answered in. It does not read channels or conversations it has not been added to.
- Answers are limited to the data your own Singular permissions allow.
- Everyone in a channel sees an answer posted there, including its numbers.
Other messages you might see
- Slack authorization wasn't completed. The Slack screen was closed before finishing. Try again.
- Your session expired while you were on Slack. Sign in to Singular again and retry.
- That Slack authorization took too long. Start the connection again.
- That Slack workspace is already connected to another Singular account. Another Singular account owns this workspace. Disconnect it there first.
- Your Singular account is already connected to a different Slack workspace. Disconnect the current workspace before connecting another.
- That link has expired or was already used. Use Connect my Slack in Singular instead.
- Slack didn't return everything we need. Try the connection again.
